The Rewards of 60 Years of Research
The Empowered Leaning™ Cognitive program is based on the work of Dr. J.P. Guilford, PH.D., a professor at the University of Southern California, and Dr. James Fadigan, Ph.D.
In the 1940’s, Dr. Guilford was commissioned by the U.S. Department of Defense to identify and measure the learning skills that make a successful pilot. He discovered that successful pilot trainees shared certain cognitive abilities.
Dr. Fadigan's research focused on the broader question of what enables people to learn in an academic setting. He identified 15 cognitive skills critical for academic success. They found that children who were having difficulty in school had specific underdeveloped skills. Dr. Fadigan proved that these skills could be enhanced through exercises designed to strengthen the brain’s ability to absorb and act on sensory information. From this research Dr. Fadigan developed the Test Of Multiple Intelligence(TOMI) Which measures 15 cognitive abilities and designed a program using sensory-motor and visual processing skills.
Dr. James F. Fadigan holds a Ph.D. in Psychology and postdoctoral work at McGill University in Neuroscience. His entire career focused on how the brain learns and how to enhance the ability to learn. His long list of accomplishments include major contributions in academics, industrial and clinical psychology and high-level government projects. Dr. Fadigan served on two Presidential Commissions and developed employee testing programs that established national standards.
Peter Riddle, is an SOI specialist and Learn To Learn Trainer. A dedicated educator with over twenty-five years of experience combined his Learning Strategies™ with the Guilford Learning Systems to form the Empowered Learning ™ Institute, These centers offer a comprehensive program utilizing a sensory-motor and visual processing gym, computerized workbook exercises and his brain based Learning Strategies™. Peter Riddle is a nationally recognized expert in the fields of self-development, parent training and learning strategies. As VP of Educational Services at Grolier Publishing, he conducted research in the fields of learning styles and multiple intelligence theories.
Richard Reutter, MD, a renowned pediatrician join together with Peter Riddle in 2004 to form Empowered Learning ™ Institute, providing the solution for attention and learning problems. Dr. Reutter is a well know developmental pediatrician who has been practicing for more than 30 years. He specializes in attention and behavior-related disorders. Dr. Reutter pioneered The Attention Center in Eatontown, NJ., devoted to the testing and treatment of children presenting AD/HD-like symptoms. He was the first to place the Neurolex medical test in his practice.
